I need advice on android

I Have an idea of building an app that allows users to comment on something by posting messages that other users can thumb up/down or reply to with the users avatar on the left side. It similar to how users can post,like or reply on Facebook or yahoo news. My questions are how do I approach this problem in terms of the message board,the reply and the thumb up/down feature. What classes and methods should I use? I am new to android and still a programming student.
